Governmentt to publish weekly details of state expenditure


President Mohamed Nasheed has announced that the government will publish weekly the details of the government expenditure on that particular week from next month on wards.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of the government’s economic reform programmes, President Nasheed said that every single coin that the government earns is owned by the people of Maldives. He said that the earnings of the state are the richness created by Maldivian businessmen.

“Therefore, this richness, this wealth should be maintained by the government for the state with justness and fairness,” he said.

President Nasheed said that his government does not believe that it is correct to leave any of the details of the expenditures of the state hidden from the people when it is the people who are rightful owners of the state revenue.

President noted that the government’s expenses are solely spent for the people, in their service and the government expenses are transparent. He also underscored the importance of publishing the details of the government expenses under a thorough inspection of an independent institution.

The inauguration ceremony to launch the government economic reform programmse was be held, yesterday evening at 09:45 pm at Dharubaaruge, in order to identify policies to improve the fiscal situation of the budget in the medium term and to achieve long-term fiscal sustainability.

Cabinet Ministers, Members of the Parliament, State Ministers, political appointees and various individuals from the countries economic and financial sectors also attended the ceremony.

At the ceremony, President Nasheed launched a compiled book which is anticipated to inform the general public on issues of fiscal and economic reform.

Issues of fiscal responsibility and reform was addressed and the long-term fiscal outlook will meaningfully improve following implementation of government initiatives for economic recovery.
