President calls public to participate in launching ceremony of goverment economic reform programme


President Mohamed Nasheed has appealed the public to participate in the launching ceremony of the government’s economic reform programmes to be held next Monday evening.

In his weekly radio address given last Friday, President Nasheed noted that the government’s entire economic programme will be publicised completely at the ceremony.

The President said that the economic reform bills that have been submitted to the parliament will merely benefit the people of the Maldives, bring about further development to the state, and provide means for growth to the country.

President Nasheedalso highlighted on the concern shown towards these bills, by some members of the parliament and a number of business associations. He also assured that there was no need for any concern about the bills, despite the unfavourable consequences being predicted by a few business associations.

Meanwhile, the inauguration ceremony to launch a government economic reform programme will be held on Monday, August 15th, at 09:45 pm at Dharubaaruge, in order to identify policies to improve the fiscal situation of the budget in the medium term and to achieve long-term fiscal sustainability.

President Nasheed will attend the ceremony as well as Cabinet Ministers, Members of the Parliament, State Ministers, political appointees and various individuals from the countries economic and financial sectors.

At the ceremony, President Nasheed will launch a compiled book which is anticipated to inform the general public on issues of fiscal and economic reform.

Issues of fiscal responsibility and reform shall be addressed and the long-term fiscal outlook will meaningfully improve following implementation of government initiatives for economic recovery.
