MACL becomes a CANSO member
CANSO, the Global Voice of ATM, has welcomed the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) as its newest Full Member.
MACL CEO &
Managing Director Mohamed Ibrahim said: “Though the Maldives Airport Company
Limited has been providing air traffic services within the Republic of Maldives
and all airports located within, it was only on the 23rd March 2011 that the
Government of the Maldives, through the Ministry of Transport and Communication,
formally entrusted us with the provision of Air Navigation Services in the Male’
Flight Information Region.
“CANSO will be a platform for networking with major stakeholders and
collaborating with members in finding solutions to complex changes in aircraft
operating environments. We look forward to participating in major aviation
forums and giving our input into next generation ATM strategic systems.”
CANSO Director General Graham Lake said: “For island nations such as the Maldives, aviation provides a vital service supporting not only the tourism industry, but local business and communications links across the region. A high performance air traffic management system capable of handling increased traffic flow is therefore essential for the country’s continued economic growth. By joining CANSO, MACL demonstrates its commitment to transforming ATM performance and we are delighted to welcome them to the global ATM community. I look forward to working together and to meeting Mr Ibrahim at our upcoming Asia-Pacific Conference in June.”
MACL joins CANSO having recently completed a multi-million dollar project to improve air traffic control through the implementation of new technologies - such as MSSR, ADS-C, CPDLC, and an automatic flight data processing system - at Male’ International Airport.
On 23rd
March 2011, the government represented by Ministry of Transport and
Communication, formally designated Maldives Airports Company as the sole
provider of air navigation services with the Male’ Flight Information Region and
at all country within airports, which necessitates the availability of such
services under the current Maldives Civil Aviation Regulations.
With this designation, MACL, through the direction of their Board of Directors,
officially applied to join the Civil Air Navigation Services Organization(CANSO).
Headquartered in Holland and subdivided into six worldwide regions, CANSO is the
global voice of air traffic control providers representing the interests of air
navigation service providers worldwide. Existing fifty members of the
organization are responsible for supporting over 85% of world air traffic, and
through their workgroups, members share information and develop new policies,
with the ultimate aim of improving air navigation services on the ground and in
the air. CANSO has an extensive network of associate members drawn from across
the aviation industry and represent members’ views in major regulatory and
industry forums, including ICAO as an official observer.
