Opening of new path for Chinese tourists to the Maldives
China opened a new gateway to promote the
Maldives by opening a Maldives Travel Service Centre in Dongguan City, China.
The Centre was officially launched by Ahmed Latheef, Ambassador of the Republic
of Maldives to the People’s Republic of China.
At the ceremony Ambassador Latheef highlighted the importance of Chinese market
to local tourism and highlighted areas of opportunities for Chinese businesses
to invest in the Maldives, particularly in the tourism sector. The Ambassador
expressed confidence that by opening the travel service center in Dongguan City
would promote bilateral relations and promote commercial diplomacy between the
two countries.
The Maldives Centre established by Dongguan Youth Travel Services Company Ltd.
is a permanent Centre that will provide Chinese tourists with travel information
about the Maldives and assist in their travel.
Dongguan is a fast developing city in Guangdong Province with a floating
population of about 8 million, 40 percent of which have the spending power to
travel and spend their holidays abroad.
The Dongguan City check-in Station opened in 2006 has provided Chinese outbound
travelers to directly check into flights departing from other cities in
Guangdong such as Guangzhou and Shengzhen. This is the first such facility in
South China.
