Ali Waheed meets the President to discuss on escalating gang violence


Deputy leader of the main opposition party, Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), Ali Waheed has met with the President to show concern on the escalating rate of gang violence and to discuss to curb gang violence and gang related crimes in the Maldives.

The meeting was held yesterday night at the President’s Official House, Muleeaage. Ali Waheed who has been known for his open opposition and criticism of the government, concluded the meeting at 22:45.

“Discussions held underlined mainly on all working together to reduce and prevent serious crimes in the country. We also discussed on giving support to the Police to meet the full responsibilities of their mission to eradicate crime. And it was also on how to turn the Youth away from these crimes,” Ali Waheed said.

Speaking to Miadhu Daily, Ali Waheed said that he offered President Nasheed his personal views on the issue too.

Ali Waheed underscored the importance of all the concerned institutions and parties, whether they are from the government or the opposition to corporate and work together to reinstate the peace in this country in national level.
