No powerful ruler can yield benefit
without empowering the people- Waheed Deen
Mohamed Waheed Deen has
said that it is apparent from the current events in the world that no powerful
ruler can yield without empowering the people.
Waheed Deen said this at
the inauguration ceremony of the “Institute of Local Governance and
Development”, of which he is the initiator and benefactor, held at Dharubaaruge
yesterday night.
Former Minister of Atolls
Development in the previous regime, Waheed Deen said that the Institute was
inaugurated with the objective to enhance the institutional and management
capabilities of Provincial Councils and Local Government agencies for the
efficient and effective provisions of services to the people.
He said that the Institute
is mandated to conduct capacity building and supports the aims of the
devolutionary process with promoting Good Governance through research, training,
consultancies, dissemination of information leading to innovative and effective
local governance.
The ceremony was officiated
by the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Local Government Forum, Carl
Wright. The ceremony was attended by high officials of the government including
the Minister of Home Affairs, Hassan Afeef.
