Pres. will not influence MDP internal elections - Press Secretary
Press Secretary of the President’s Office, Mohamed Zuhair has said that the President will not use any undue influence on the internal elections of the ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to be held on 30th of this month.
Speaking to the press yesterday, Press Secretary Zuhair said that President Mohamed Nasheed does not promote or endorse any candidate running in the MDP elections.
Zuhair said that the President wishes well to all the candidates and believes that the final decision is at the hands of the members of the party.
Zuhair said that it is an individual right of the President as the member of MDP to vote for any candidate he favours.
Moreover, Zuhair said that the President appealed the party to make it a free and fair election that can be taken as a model election by other political parties.
Meanwhile, in contrast to this, Former President, main opposition party, Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP)’s founding Leader Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom used his political influence and endorsed Ahmed Thasmeen to be his successor in party leadership, however eventually his support for Thasmeen was apparently lost with the current fuming internal crisis within DRP that has been making headlines in the media for quiet sometime. The anti-Thasmeen movement now led by DRP’s founding leader Gayyoom himself, has been continuously attempting to expose Thasmeen’s leadership lapses and defame him.
Press Secretary added that the President will never allow this to happen in the ruling party.
