Escalation of gang violence linked to drugs- Gasim

Leader of Jumhooree Party (JP), Gasim Ibrahim has said that recent escalation of assault using lethal weapons, battery, murder, gang related violence and other organised crime are linked to the alarming rate of drug abuse spilling across the nation.

Gasim said that according to authorities, street gangs, violent crime and drugs go hand-in-hand. He said that a concerted effort among police, courts and all related parties is critical in effectively dealing with the problem.

JP Leader underscored the importance of implementing immediate preventive measures to reduce violent crime.

Gasim noted that Gang-related homicides have increased dramatically in the last 2 to 3 years, reaching epidemic proportions.

Moreover, adopting legislation for effective prosecution was also deliberated by Gasim. He said that the claim that more laws needed to be made to fight against gang violence as a mere conjecture.

Gasim said that there are enough laws that just needs to be implemented by the responsible authorities to prevent and reduce assault using lethal weapons, battery, murder, gang related violence and other organised crime.
