Majlis is
depicted as an animal cage because work is done for rights of the people- Manik
Parliamentary group leader
of ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Hulhuhenveiru MP, Moosa
Manik (Reeko) has said that the Peoples’ Majlis is depicted by the opponents as
an animal cage because work is being carried out in the Majlis for the rights of
the people.
Moosa Manik said this at
the inauguration of the campaign of Feydhoo MP Alhan Fahmy who is running in the
MDP inter elections for the post of Vice President of the party.
Moosa Manik said that the
Majlis is being portrayed as an animal cage by those MPs who are dissatisfied
with the work carried out for the sake of the rights of the people by MPs who
represent the interests and concerns of the people.
He said that the MPs were
barred from the right to criticize, propose amendments and freedom of speech in
the Majlis during the reign of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom.
“Prior to the Majlis
sitting, the Speaker will announce it all. Then the Majlis will begun and they
will be proposed. The role of the MPs then were to raise their hands as soon as
they can and agree to those amendments. In about 25 minutes the sitting will be
concluded and they will have their tea and go home,” Moosa Manik said.
Moosa Manik also said that
it was foolish of those MPs who depict the Majlis as being a cage when they
themselves are MPs. He said that this means they themselves accuse their own
selves as being “animals from the same cage.”
