Tourism Security Seminar Concluded


The seminar organised for the Tourism industry stakeholders, the government and all concerned parties to provide an input into how security and safety should be organised in the Maldivian tourism industry has been concluded with important decisions.

In giving Information to the Media, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dr. MariyamZulfa said that in this seminar a lot of important things were concluded which includes thoughts of the participants about the things that can be done during the short term, mid-term and the long term.

The most important thing that was concluded in the seminar was to establish an emergency hotline and how to activate the existing focal points. Also how the focal points can take action  when the Tourism Industry is insecure was highlighted as a basic need.

A paper will be made from the  opinions of the participants of the seminar by the committee appointed. While the committee is working on the paper rules and regulations will be established. Also a bill will be drafted with the assistance and opinion from the Tourim Industry and the political parties said the Secretary  General of Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI).

The Chairperson of MATI Mohamed Umar Maniksaid that it’s difficult to estimate the loss that the Tourism Industry will suffer from the gangs trying to rob from Baros Island Resort. “ When all the tourists travel they check for the Travel Advisory, and now the Travel Advisory is published, So the impact will be seen later.”  Mohamed Umar Manik also said.
