Tourism Security Seminar inaugurated
Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has yesterday opened the Tourism Security Seminar in association with Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI), Maldives Police Service and Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF).
The event was officiated by President Mohamed Nasheed.
In the key opening address, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dr. Mariyam Zulfa underscored the importance of security and safety to the tourism industry, saying that tourism could never achieve its targets under poor security circumstances.
Reiterating the objective of the seminar, Minister Zulfa said that the seminar was organised for the Tourism industry stakeholders, the government and all concerned parties to provide an input into how security and safety should be organised in the Maldivian tourism industry.
Dr. Zulfa said that any thing that tarnishes the image of Maldives as a hospitable, safe and secure environment is a grave concern for the government, the parties concerned in the tourism industry and all of the people of the Maldives.
“I call on all of you to take the responsibility to shoulder the task of looking after our businesses and our properties, in a safe and secure way, that ensures Maldives as a welcoming and a pleasant place for visitors,” she said.
The participants of the seminar will be discussing on the concept of tourism security, the role of those parties concerned in the tourism industry and security, the role of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture in this regard.
