I proposed the Rf20,000 allowance because the MPs wanted it- Colonel Nasheed

 Nolhivaram MP Mohamed ‘Colonel’ Nasheed of the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has said that he only proposed the RF 20,000 committee allowance as an addition to  the current salary of MRF62,000 because all of the MPs wanted the increase.

‘Colonel’ Nasheed said that the committee allowance proposal was passed by the Majlis by the vote of 65 MPs in favour of the pay increase.

The ruling MDP Parliamentary Group member Nasheed strongly criticized Maria Ahmed Didi, MDP’s Chairperson for saying that “It is now only that I have empathized the suffering of the people” after voting in favour of the proposal.

‘Colonel’ Nasheed said that this statement shows that Maria is not qualified enough to be the Chairperson of MDP.

Maafannu Hulhangu member Abdullah AbduRaheem said that it was the members of the opposition Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) who supported the proposal of Colonel Nasheed. He said that the Salary increment of the MPs was proposed with all parties coming to a common term.

Abdullah AbduRaheem said that opposition Jumhooree Party (JP) Leader and Maamigili MP Gasim Ibrahim condemned the proposal of Colonel Nasheed instantly.

He also said that the protest held in front of the Majlis on Thursday was planned by President of Male’ Municipality, ‘Sarangu’ Adam Manik.
